Ingredients: 

2 1/2oz/60g margarine or butter (make sure the margarine is suitable for cooking)

1 tablespoon of cocoa powder

9oz/250g of icing sugar (sieved )

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

3 tablespoons of scalding hot milk

Method: 
  1. Melt the margarine/butter and cocoa powder together.
  2. Add the vanilla essence, hot milk, and icing sugar and beat together until you get a smooth, fudgy consistancy

 

You'll find it easier to spread if you give it a quick zap in the microwave before you apply it. If you get it hot enough to pour then you can just drizzle it onto the cake and you'll get a totally smooth, glossy finish. It might take two coats to get it thick enough though.

My mum always made extra and kept it in a tub in the fridge for us to use as chocolate spread.
