I wasn't happy with the original Butterfly Panel so I thought I'd try again as I loved the picture.

Now this is much more like it. Having been disapointed by the colours in the original panel I thought I'd go for a more direct application.
First I piped all the outlines (and the wing spots) in black (well.. actually it came out dark purple - it's the same problem I had with the original panel - than when you use the paste to colour the icing it fades the colour) Then I filled in all the white (I piped it all rather than flooded.. I don't know why - flooding would have looked better)

The back looks quite nice too, but I liked the embossed effect on the front, so decided to paint that side
Using liquid food colouring I colour in, just like a colouring in book (I don't even have to be that careful of the edges as they are so dark in comparison to the colours!)

I really like that. I can imagine a cake with this on the top, and related panels on each side - like a music box. I shall give it a go when my mum's birthday comes round.
