Loaf tins. Great for bread, ginger cake, banana loaf, madeira cake, and also as a large block shape when modelling cakes.

Cuisinart 9-in. Nonstick Chef's Classic Nonstick Loaf Pan

The most common size is for a 1lb loaf of bread, but you'll find larger 2lb tins and mini tins. You can get them in silicon, pressed or folded steel, aluminium, even enamel, china or glass.

For cakes stick to the metal or silicone. I prefer nice, heavy folded metal, but all the metal ones will be pretty solid. Silicone tins will be reinforced, but still it's best to put them into the oven on a baking tray as they hold quite a weight of cake mix and the last thing you want to do is have it buckle and spil that over the floor.
